

Mrs. Mildred Garrett Greaux, a vibrant soul of 91 years, gracefully transitioned to her heavenly home on Friday March 15th, 2024, at her cherished residence in Chestnut Ridge, New York. She was the beloved wife of the late Carl L. Greaux, sharing a bond that transcends earthly boundaries.
Born on December 24, 1933, in Donalds, South Carolina, Mildred was a radiant gift to her parents, the late George and Bessie Rice Garrett. She radiated warmth and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Mildred was preceded in death by her two brothers, George Albert Garrett and Eddie Maceo Garrett, as well as her sister, Vivian Garrett Makin. Their memories remained etched in her heart, a testament to the deep connections she held dear.
After graduating from high school in Greenville, South Carolina, Mildred embarked on a journey of higher education at North Carolina A&T. It was during college that she found sisterhood and camaraderie as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. Upon receiving her bachelor’s degree, and fueled by ambition and determination, Mildred set her sights on a brighter future, leaving the South behind to pursue her dreams.
Bronx, New York welcomed Mildred with open arms, and she found solace in the embrace of her Aunt Delores. Before dedicating herself to social work for the City of New York, Mildred graced the stage with her melodious voice, performing alongside her Uncle Herbie in a local band. Her talent shone brightly, earning her a place on the illustrious Apollo stage, where she captivated audiences as a finalist. In the early 1950s, Mildred also left her mark in the music industry, recording two records (78s) that echoed her passion and spirit.
In the bustling borough of Manhattan, Mildred’s path intertwined with that of Carl L Greaux, igniting a love story that would span a lifetime. Their union blessed them with two children, Kim Mercedes Greaux and Carl Valentino Greaux, who became the center of their world. In the 1970s, the family planted roots in Rockland County, New York, where Mildred’s warmth and generosity touched the lives of many.
Her unwavering faith found a home at Faith Assembly Church in Chestnut Ridge New York, where she devoted herself to spiritual growth and community service. Mildred's spirited nature and keen intellect made her a captivating conversationalist, eagerly sharing her opinions on current events, politics, and everything in between. She embraced debate with gusto and found solace in the pages of books and crossword puzzles, where her curiosity knew no bounds.
Mildred leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories, survived by her daughter, Kim Mercedes Greaux (Dave) Raman and son, Carl Valentino (Lisa) Greaux. Her grandchildren Jasmine Imani Davis and Joshua Lawrence Pierce, were the apple of her eye, bringing boundless joy to her days. She is survived by her sister, Darlene Brooks, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, each touched by her grace and kindness.
