Olga Hermenia Lopez Kirven passed away on March 23,2015 at the Joe Raso Hospice Residence in New City, New York. She was born in St. Catherine ,Jamaica W.I. to Cyril Lopez and Leathie Leslie on January 9, 1920. Olga was one of fourteen siblings who have predeceased her. She took her love of people and sense of style to Apex Beauty School in Harlem where she studied Beauty Culture and graduated in 1955. From there, she went on to become a premier hair stylist at Rose Morgan House of Beauty, the first full service hair salon in Harlem. Here, celebrities came to get ready for appearances at the Apollo Theater in addition to weddings and special events.
After many years, she left to pursue a career in the medical field at Montefiore Hospital where she scheduled surgical appointments for physicians in the operating room. When her beloved husband Ansel Kirven died in1989, Olga left NYC for Rockland County to be near her daughter and family. She volunteered at Summit Park for twelve years where she received numerous awards for her dedication, compassion and inspiration. Olga later became a resident in 2005.
She was a generous, sharp witted and spirited force throughout her life. We celebrate her life even as we suffer her loss. Olga is survived by her daughter Sharon Davis, granddaughters Marisa and Shana Davis and a large circle of extended family and friends.
