Terry is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Donna Grosselfinger, two children and their spouses: Kevin (Julie Cubino) and Chris (Brenda Reilly) and two sisters, Nancy Grosselfinger and Laurie Grosselfinger (Dick Palinckx). He also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren: Anthony, Rowan, Xander, Nelliah, and Imani Grosselfinger.
Terry was born and raised in Suffern, the only son of the late Dr. Harold and Anna (Val) Grosselfinger. He attended Ramapo Central Schools and graduated from Suffern High School. He was drafted into the US Army infantry during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. After his military service he enrolled in Rockland Community College where he met his future wife. He subsequently graduated from St. Lawrence University with a double major in government and economics and went on to earn a law degree from New York Law School. He practiced law in Suffern for several years before changing careers to work for Rockland County. He served first as Director of Housing and Urban Development, then as Chief of Staff for C. Scott Vanderhoef, County Executive, and finally as the Director of Consumer Protection, Weights & Measures, as well as Public Advocate.
He was an avid golfer from a young age, having caddied at the Tuxedo Club as a teenager, and he played at the Spook Rock Golf Course every opening day. Terry was also very active in the lives of his children and community. He coached for the Ramapo Little League and later held the position of league President. He also served as President of the Ramapo Central School District Board of Education. Some of his favorite moments in life were spent vacationing at the family home in Raquette Lake, NY with his family and grandchildren.
The family will honor Terry’s life this Wednesday May 24th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home in Suffern. Funeral services will take place on Thursday May 25th at 11am at Sacred Heart Church, Suffern, NY.
In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made in his memory to the Bone Marrow Transplant Center of Hackensack University Medical Center.
