

At the age of six, the family moved to Houston, Texas. His grandmother Cora Lee Metoyer can be credited for instilling in him the Catholic faith. Alvin received his First Holy Communion at St. Anthony Catholic Church on May 8, 1960. He remained a faithful Catholic until the time of his passing.
In 1970, Alvin graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in Houston. That same year, he began working at the Houston Refinery, where he worked until his retirement in 2009. In 1972, Alvin was drafted to serve his country during the Vietnam Era and served honorably for two years.
He enjoyed all aspects of technology including computers, gaming, and day trading. The Big Bang Theory was his favorite TV show. Additional hobbies included fishing, gardening traveling, and spending time with his family.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; and older brother, James Vernon Pitts. He will be forever remembered by his devoted wife of 35 years, Monica (Thompson) Pitts; two children, Mykal Pitts and Tiffany Simpson; two grandchildren, Gary Simpson, III and Tyler Simpson; two brothers, Garrick Pitts, Sr. (Carolyn) and Victor Pitts (Antoinette); and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
