

He was born July 7, 1940 to his parents Mr. Demetrio Dichoso and Mrs. Maria Camara Dichoso.
Dr. Carmelo obtained his Medical Degree (M.D.) from the University of Santo Tomas / Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, where he was the Vice President of the UST Honor Society. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency with the Nephrology Fellowship (Baylor College of Medicine) from 1968 to 1972 and was the Assistant Profession of Medicine. Dr. Carmelo was also the President of Clark Field Interns Organization, stationed at the United States Air Force Hospital - Clark Air Base in Pampanga, Philippines.
During Dr. Carmelo's life, he worked as a Physician (Nephrologist) and Co-founder of Southwest Nephrology Associates. He was also the Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine for the University of Texas Health Science Center. Dr. Carmelo was even awarded as the Best Teacher out of four other faculty members within the Residency program at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, and the Outstanding Silver Jubilation from the USTMAA Gliverio Bustamante Award in December of 1991.
He was a part of many organization, of which he acted as the President of the Association of Philippines in Physicians in America, which conceptualized and inaugurated the Annual Philippine Medical Association / APPA Congress to find ways for US-based Filipino physicians to assist the PMA in their Charitable/humanitarian projects in the Philippines. He was also the President of PEACE (Philippine Economic and Cultural Endowment). In addition to these efforts, he was the Editor in Chief for APPA Quarterly, Philippine Physician, APPA News, and the PEACE Newsletter.
Dr. Carmelo is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Helen Dichoso; his son Dr. Daryl Dichoso; his son Mr. Dustin Dichoso; and his son Mr. Dean Dichoso; his sister Nicena Dichoso Mauleon and his sister Celeste Dichoso Tolentino; his grandchildren Alden Dichoso, Baron Dichoso, Conrad Dichoso, Alana Dichoso, and Demetrio Dichoso.
Dr. Carmelo was preceded in death by his parents Mr. Demetrio Dichoso and Mrs. Maria Camara Dichoso; his sister Merced Kabigting and his sister Milda Medina.
The family would like to give special thanks to the physicians, nurses, and physical therapists who directly treated and cared for Dr. Carmelo Dichoso over the last 5 years, as well as Kim Roberson, Royce Bollado, Elisa Magsino, Cordelia Kaunda, Elsa Achico, Dr. Sandip Desai (Intensivist at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital), Dr. Givya Gupta (Primary Care Physician), the nurses and physicians from the Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital - IMU and the Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center - Neuro ICU, Vantage Hospice and nurses, and Linda Edwards, RN.
A visitation & rosary service for Carmelo will be held Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at The Settegast-Kopf Company at Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX 77478. A mass of christian burial will occur Monday, September 25, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77479.
