Eddie Carl Apel lived his life serving Almighty God and his fellow Man. He was born on December 24, 1927, and went home to Jesus on September 1, 2019. Eddie was a man of integrity and humility that lived his life dedicated to Christian teaching and values. Eddie grew up on the family farm, attending Bethel Heights Baptist Church and attending Plainview Community School. He graduated from Gatesville High School in 1945. After high school, Eddie served in the Army in Kyoto, Japan, and later attended Texas A&M University. After graduation, Eddie served in the Air Force on Johnson Island. After discharge from the Air Force in 1952, Eddie and Eva Lou King were married in 1953, and spent much of their child raising years in Houston, but also spent time living in Waco, TX, Austin, TX and Missouri City, TX. After post-graduate work at Baylor and UH, Eddie worked as an accountant for Ada Oil Company, Shell Oil Company, and the Farm Credit Banks of Texas, retiring in 1989. After both Eddie and Eva Lou retired, they moved to First Colony in Missouri City, Texas to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Vastly more important to Eddie than his career, however, was his spiritual life and his dedication to the Church. He was a charter member of Sharpstown Baptist and served as Church Treasurer for many years. He served as a Royal Ambassador leader in Waco, was ordained as a deacon at Sharpstown Baptist, served as a deacon at Hyde Park Baptist, Woodlawn Baptist, and Sugar Creek Baptist. During retirement, Eddie worked as a volunteer at Habitat for Humanity, Second Mile Ministry, and served on the Finance Committee at Sugar Creek Baptist. Eddie left a legacy of Christian integrity and service wherever he walked. Eddie is survived by his wife Eva Lou, his two sons, Greg and his wife Lorri, Jeff and his wife Laura, daughter Melinda and her husband Ken Phillips; seven grandchildren: Blake and his wife Annie, Ashley and her husband David Gerdy, Jason and his wife Hollyann, Zachary and his wife Carolina, Travis, Kendra and her husband Gordon Pinkerton, and Conner. He was blessed with five great-grand-children: Benjamin, Jackson, Charlie, Samuel, Madison, and one more on the way. The Family suggests donations be made in memory of Eddie Apel, to Sugar Creek Baptist Church REACH Beyond Fund, www.sugarcreek.net or Alzheimer's Association, www.act.alz.org/

Eddie meant a great deal to us. He was a dear friend who helped us in so many ways -- both in business and in church. I looked forward to shaking hands with him at the close of the service. He was a true Christian gentleman. He and Eva Lou and their family meant so much to us.
