ELIZABETH “BETTY” PHYLLIS MONROE, age 90, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015. She was born on August 31, 1924, in Ontario, Canada and moved to Trinidad at the age of seven. During WWII, at the age of eighteen, Betty served as a WREN, in the Canadian Royal Navy. Following the war, she moved to England with her parents. In 1949, Betty moved to Venezuela, to work for Shell, where she met CK Monroe. They moved to the United States in 1953. Betty was a lifetime member of the Daughters of The British Empire.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, CK Monroe. She is survived by her children, Donald Monroe and wife Ivette of Houston, Texas, Barry Monroe of Long Beach, California, and Lindsay Smith and husband Marshall of Missouri City, Texas; grandchildren, Ian and Tyler Monroe; and great-grandchildren, Kenzie and Audrey Monroe.
