Glenn Joseph Ryan passed away May 13, 2026, after a 6-year battle with cancer. He was 73. He never gave up during that time and met each challenge that arose with the determination and spirit seen throughout his life.
Glenn was born July 20, 1952, in Dallas, Texas. His family moved to Kingsville, Texas in 1955. Glenn was active in sports and was in the choir during high school. He was quarterback of the football team in his Senior year. “Quarterback” was also his “handle” back in the days of CB radios.
In 1971, he furthered his education goals by attending Texas A&I University in Kingsville. He was diligent in his studies to advance his career and was also a leader of the campus Delta Tau Delta fraternity. During that time, he accumulated many new friends that continue to this day. Glenn graduated from Texas A&I in December 1973 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
Ten days later, on December 31, 1973, Glenn reported for work as an auditor, with other new arrivals, to Price Waterhouse & Co in Houston, Texas---which was among the most prestigious Certified Public Accounting firms in America. It was also on that day that he met his friend for life, Mike Murphree.
The Price Waterhouse years presented new horizons and a foundation for the rest of his life. The work was challenging and rewarding. The best of which was making many new friends and professionals from varied backgrounds with new opportunities.
Glenn began a new page in his life in one of those opportunities in 1982 with foreign investors that wanted to be in the oil and gas business in Texas. Montex Exploration Co. was formed, and Glenn was the Chief Financial Officer. Eventually it became Glenn’s company.
Glenn enjoyed golf and the great outdoors. Hunting and fishing were another opportunity to enjoy friends and family. Glenn always created an environment he wanted to share with others---like inviting them to his boat for a cruise or participating in a great hunting camp. As a hunter since a teenager, he introduced many people to that incredible experience that they would have otherwise never known.
Glenn never married, but that doesn’t mean he never loved. He did.
Glenn is survived by his brothers, Gary Ryan (Onie), Gregg Ryan (Bobbie), Gil Ryan, Sisters, Gayle Ryan Embrey (Walter), and Glenda Ryan Jacoby. Nephews, Heath Ryan, Jason Ryan, Ryan Erskine, Houston Erskine, Glenn Alan Erskine, Dalton Ryan. Nieces, Cheryl Keyworth, Lori Sipes, April Restrepo, Jaclyn Jacoby and McCann Ryan. Many great nieces and nephews. Special friends Mike Murphree (LeaAnn), Ross Murphree and Chase Murphree.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John W. Ryan and Lorell McCann Ryan.
Glenn leaves behind a legacy of living life to the fullest and helping others. He will be remembered as a great Uncle, brother and friend for many that will cherish him forever.
To honor his final wishes, Glenn’s ashes will be returned to the place he held most dear ----- the family farm in Petronila, Texas, where his spirit will be forever tied to the land he loved.
