

Joe was born in Slaton, Texas on August 12, 1925 to H. Curtis and Iris Greenwood Jones. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 78 years, Gloria, his brothers Henry C. Jones and Harold G. Jones, and .is survived by his sister Margaret Ann Mitchell of Dallas, Texas, son Joe Michael Jones of Davie, Florida, son Dr. Robert Patrick Jones and wife, Terri of Savannah, Georgia and son Kevin Samuel Jones and wife Robbie of Richmond, Texas. He was known as Pops to his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, grand-nieces, nephews and grand-nephews.
In his early years, Joe’s family moved to Seagraves, Texas where his father was the banker and town mayor, until the Great Depression struck, when his family moved to Fort. Worth, Texas where he met and eventually married the love of his life, Gloria Mildred Leath. Joe graduated from Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth in 1942 where he was a city tennis champion and enrolled at Texas Tech University. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp cadet training in 1943 and served in the Air Transport Command in Europe, Africa and Pacific Theaters.
Following his service in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, Joe received his BS degree from Tulsa University and began his career in the oil & gas exploration field with Sinclair Oil & Gas Co. and Sinclair Research Inc., living in Fort Worth for some 7 years, then Tulsa, Oklahoma for some 18 years, then moving to San Antonio, Texas in 1969 when he joined Petty Geophysical Engineering Co., and afterward moving in 1973 to Missouri City, Texas when Petty-Ray was merged into Geosource, where he eventually became President of Petty-Ray Geosource, traveling worldwide in that capacity. He retired in 1984 from Geosource and consulted for various companies until 1995. In retirement, Joe pursued his love of tennis, golf and his grandchildren.
Joe was a longtime resident of Missouri City’s Quail Valley community and a member of Sugar Land Methodist Church. He and Gloria together enjoyed an incredibly full life of family, friends, world travel and adventure, and loved to entertain, and dinner parties with friends from all over the world were regular occasions. Joe was beloved for his friendly manner and regular wine sharing conversations with friends and family and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. The family is grateful for the care and support given over the years by his faithful housekeeper Lourdes, his many neighbors and friends, and his physician of many years, Dr. Wang.

Visitation will be held at Settegast-Kopf Sugar Land on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 from 2-5 PM. Graveside services for family will be conducted at Fort Worth’s Mt. Olivet Greenwood Cemetery where his wife Gloria, father, mother and other relatives are interred
