Ima, no words can describe how beautiful and awesome you were both inside and out. Ima was a woman of substance, hard working and very ambitious. She was always a pleasure to work with at Boston Medical Center. When Ima left for Texas, she was always remembered for her hard work, funny and happy person whenever she was on duty. Her funniest joke at work was, “that’s my spot”. She had a sitting spot no staff could occupy because she claimed that spot was hers whenever she was on duty. When new staff came on the unit and weren’t aware and took her spot, the old staff made sure her sitting spot was not taken by saying, “that’s Ima’s spot”. Ima made a joke of this whenever we communicated. Ima, I know you have already created a sitting spot by Our Creator in Heaven watching over all the loved ones you’ve left behind, especially your beautiful and beloved children. I believe God called you home sooner to join your amazing husband as Ima always said, “we’re inseparable.” Now, you’re both together again appointed by Almighty God as guardian angels to watch over your beloved children. As the saying goes, “two heads are better than one”. Ima, I believe your husband needed your helping hand so Almighty God called you home to join him to fight and protect your family spiritually since both spirits continue to live for them. 
Ima, my sister and my good friend, as you always said, you will be missed. I will continue to pray for God’s Grace, strength and comfort for your beloved children, families and friends. 
May your beautiful soul Rest Peacefully in God’s bosom until we meet again. Sleep well my dear sister.

Our Sister Ima was an embodiment of faith, love and  goodness. She touched many with compassion and grace. Words will fail me to describe her. Even when life threw a curve ball at her, she stood tall as an Ambassador of Christ and became an Encourager for many, created a foundation to reach out to the infirmed and needy. 
Though I still can't make sense of this and everything is so discordant, I know that you will remain forever loved and cherished in the hearts of those who love you. 
Adieu! Big Sister. Adieu! Sweet Mother and Friend. Adieu! Champion of Hope.

I am giving this tribute on behalf of myself, my family, my friends, Nse Ibekwe, Idoreyin Charles, and a host of other friends from Ika Annang Secondary School who are unable to be here. Ima, the news of your sudden and untimely exit came to us as one of the biggest shocks of the new year 2022.

I knew Ima through Nse and Idoreyin who were in the same high school. I’m married to Dr. Ekponoudim Umoekpo from the family metron (Deaconess Abigail Umoekpo) who was the then metron of Ima’s high school when she was a student. Metron would always refer to Ima as a good child.

I was in a different high school from the three of them, but we lived in the same area with Nse and Idoreyin. When we got together during holidays, the two would always talk about Ima Inokon – now, Ima James – and how beautiful, brilliant, and quiet she was. When I finally met Ima, I confirmed what I was told was so true.
Ima who was the epitome of academic excellence. Ima was brilliant, quiet, beautiful, soft spoken, gentle, sweet, and kind. Nse visited us here in Houston. Some years ago, I had to drop her off at Ima’s place. The brief reunion was awesome.

We will all miss her, but we treasure the memory and the time we spent together. We pray to God to give the children the fortitude to bear this great loss. Sleep on Sister Ima. May you find rest in God’s bosson in Jesus’ name. Amen.

It seems like yesterday that we were just enjoying some good times together. And then I got news of your sudden departure and I was so saddened.  I told God that it was not fair because your kids and grandkids need you so much. Only HE knows the reason why HE allowed this to happen.  To Gold Lady and the boys, please know that there is a community of women who are there for you. Ima's friend, Patricia Umoren.

The sad news of your fatal departure hit me like a big blow. You were a diva and strong woman. Beauty and brain. Beautiful inside and outside. Your kindness radiates like the sun. I recall the day you brought me a package from Edi, on your way to work and running late but determined the pkg wasn’t gonna stay overnight with you despite my plea to take your time to deliver. You handed the pkg to my mom and we all cracked a joke that sent us all giggling nonstop until you drove off in your car. I know you lost your hubby not long ago and now you’re gone too! I still haven’t even seen you to condole with you. Our friendship didn’t end when you said bye to Boston and embraced Texas due to Bostons weather. I’m heartbroken especially for the young kids now orphaned tragically. May your soul Rest In Peace. May God Almighty see your children through in this nightmare turned to reality. Rest In Peace my sister, my beauty, my brain, my colleague and great friend Dr Ima James. Cause for everyone to reflect on this life and how unpredictable it can be. I keep wondering what your last words and moments were before you gave up.  😭😭😭😭

Ima was incredibly generous to our non profit - Ekopimo Ibia Foundation.  She  supported our medical missions to  Nigeria  and also paid for the HPV vaccine for many Nigerian school girls - one of which is featured in the accompanying picture.

Our dear and loving Ima. I thank God for your life. We both shared a passion for doing good in memory of our dear departed spouses.  
I remember our late night phone calls as we did our widow walk together. I remember your fervent support for our non profit. I remember your flying down to Boston at a moment's notice to help me surprise a mutual best friend on her birthday. I remember your doctorate graduation party like yesterday. You were always so full of life, goodwill and laughter.  It has been  difficult to make sense of your sudden death. However, I know the Lord knows about it. Who am I to complain? I pray for strength for your family and all your loved ones.  Rest, dear Ima. God loves you best.

I did work with her at Immanuel Hospital Eket - Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria before we both left for the United States. Very gentle person and loving , and hard working too. I heard about her passing few days ago , and I have been down ever since. A strong reminder that we can leave this world at any time. 
Ima, May your gentle soul Rest In Peace with your maker .

Ima will be cherished in my heart forever.. She had an 
explosive laugh and extreme love for her family. I will never ever forget the times we shared. My sincere condolences to the family. God bless!

The first time I met Ima at her home with a close family friend Emem, she struck me as an amazingly gentle, kind, loving and sweet woman. It was an immediate bond. There are truly very few people like her. She was so totally and completely in love with her husband, whom had passed on 2 years earlier. Even death did not separate them or his cocoon of love for her. She loved completely and absolutely. She talked about their love, his letters and how he made her feel. I am truly in shock. I even took pictures of her that day to cheer her up. A beautiful soul and person she was. You will be terribly missed and words are inadequate to express it.
I pray God's comfort and strength for her family.
