She was born on December 11th, 1964 (age 57) in Nigeria where she spent her childhood and early adulthood before migrating to the United States with her family in 2001. She obtained her registered nurse certificate in 1984. In 2001, she earned an additional bachelor degree in Health Education from the University of Uyo and later uprooted her life to Boston, Massachusetts in December 2001. Ima worked diligently as a registered nurse for the next 15 years before obtaining a Masters of Science in Nursing, transitioning into a new role as a nurse practitioner. She built on her education and earned a Doctorate of Nursing Practice in May 2019.
She married the love of her life, Iboro James, in 1990 and was blessed with three sons and a daughter. Ima was a committed lover, mother, sister, and friend and was known for her infectious smile. She navigated life with joy and laughter and loved to dance. However, the sudden passing of her husband of 27 years in 2017 left her in shambles. This birthed an overwhelming desire to honor his legacy and she established a non-profit charitable organization in his name to address the health disparities present in third-world countries, embodying his spirit of generosity. Her peers often remarked that she had an uncanny and innate ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. Dr. James left a lasting imprint on her patients throughout her 30 years of devoted service as a healthcare professional.
Dr. James was a faithful and spiritual woman who embraced her role as a philanthropist by financially supporting numerous church-led international mission trips to underprivileged communities.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories, three sons,Uwakmfon-abasi James, Ikanke-abasi James, Aniebiet-abasi James; one daughter, Imamfon James; and one daughter-in-law, Donna James.
