Julian was born on January 6, 1935 in Gila, New Mexico to Julian Villarreal, Sr. and Clara (Dominguez) Villarreal. He was the second of four boys who were taught the value of hard work and a good education by their parents. He graduated from Cliff High School in 1953, where he was voted Most Likely to Succeed by his senior class and lettered in Track & Field and Basketball for four years. He went to New Mexico A&M University (now New Mexico State University) where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1957. Julian received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army on August 3, 1957. He was a highly decorated Airborne Ranger whose positions included completing three tours of duty in Vietnam; Director of Technical Operations at the U.S. Army School of the Americas in Fort Gulick, Canal Zone; and Senior Advisor, Maneuver Area Command.
He married the love of his life, Patricia Sue Noble, on January 14, 1956 in Deming, New Mexico. The two were married for 64 1/2 years and raised six children. After retiring from the military, Pat and Julian made their home in Sugar Land, Texas, and Julian worked for 19 years for the City of Houston before retiring a second time. Julian is preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Clara, his brothers, Gudelio, Robert, and Steve Arnold. He is survived by his wife, Patti Sue, children, Kathy and husband (Gene), Juli and husband (Bret), Vicki and husband (Mick), Terry and partner (Melissa), Tracy and wife (Stacy), and Jesse and wife (Courtney); grandchildren Edward and wife (Deanna), Garrod and wife (Adrienne), Justin and wife (Michelle), Sally, John, Jillian and husband (Grant), Elizabeth and husband (Casey), Daniel, Evan, Daniel Jr., Jasmine, Michael, Matthew and wife (Leslie), Mallory, Nicholas, Steven and partner (Whitney), Scott and partner (Marina), Samantha, Melanie, Patty Sue, Parker, and Kenzie; and great-grandchildren, Preshious, Patriseia, Prisstian, Lydia, Gregory, Luke, Charlotte, Lana, Taylor, Noah, Danielle, Edith, Casey, Cayden, Adriana, Krew, Elora, Aaron, Olyvia, (and Waylon, who is expected any day), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins
