Margaret Althea Buck Wenz was welcomed into heaven on April 7, 2016 a few days after her 85th birthday. She was born on April 2, 1931 to Wayne and Marion Buck in Lacon, Illinois along with her siblings, Ruth Turner and Bill Buck.
During her high school years, she met the love of her life, Paul Frederick Wenz and they were married on November 19, 1951. Shortly after graduation from Lacon High School, Paul joined the Air Force and he and Margaret were stationed in Alabama and Alaska and shared wonderful memories of those early years in their marriage. Serving alongside of and supporting her husband was one of the great joys in Margaret’s life.
Margaret and Paul had three children, Paul, II, Phillip, and Preston. Raising three active boys, Margaret was the epitome of the traditional “sports mom”. Margaret’s home became a favorite hangout to the boys and their friends with a never-ending supply of snacks and goodies from elementary through college. Additionally, Margaret was a wonderful grandmother to all her grandchildren, Holly Hagen, Emily and Samantha Wenz, Zachary, Samuel, and Levi Wenz. All of them cherished their time with Grandma and their memories of piano music, “cleaning fun”, Christmas nutcrackers, and late night ice cream treats.
Margaret had many talents that exemplified her love of home and family. She excelled at music and was a choir director for 28 years as well as a piano teacher for 58 years. Margaret was also well known for her cooking abilities and homemade recipes – including her famous homemade cheese balls and oyster dressing.
In addition to her love of family, Margaret served in numerous community organizations including Woman’s clubs, Hospital Auxiliaries, Newcomers club, Jaycettes, and local, district, and state PTAs. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi social sorority for 25 years and Delta Zeta college sorority for 67 years as an alumni group member.
Margaret went above and beyond to show love and support to her family, friends, and students. She will be missed.
For those desiring, memorial gifts may be made in Margaret’s honor to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W. Lilburn, GA 30047
