Milagros Tumarao Palasi of Missouri City, Texas passed away peacefully June 27, 2011 at her home to go HOME to the place Jesus, as promised, has prepared for her. She was born February 4, 1934 in Davao City, Philippines, the third child of Teofilo and Aurelia Tumarao. She grew up in a loving family with her parents, four sisters and one brother. As a very young child during world war II in the Philippines, she was in charge of taking care of her five year old sister and infant brother. Mila always did what was expected of her and did it very well.
She was valedictorian in her class at Davao City High School. She obtained her B. S. in Pharmacy at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila, graduating at the top of her class. She was recognized for achieving the highest score in the Philippines for the National Pharmacy Board exam that year. She met her husband, the late Dr. Fausto Palasi, while attending the university and they were married January 2, 1958. Together they raised a family of four daughters and one son. Mila and Fausto were in the U.S. in the early 1960’s. He was doing his pediatric residency and she obtained her B. S. in Medical Technology. They moved back to the Philippines where she later obtained her Masters degree in Pharmacy at the UST graduate school achieving the status of Graduate Meritissimus, which is the highest level awarded.
Her life in the Philippines consisted of teaching at the university and owning her own pharmacy. She enjoyed making speeches and was a member of the Toastmaster International in Davao. The most important thing to Mila was her family and raising her children to know and love God. Mila called upon her inner strength when her beloved Fausto died suddenly in 1986. She was left to raise her four daughters and her son who was a special child. Loving but firm, strong and passionate, she was determined that her children would lead successful lives.
Mila moved to the U.S. in 1991 to be with her daughters and son. She enjoyed reading the bible, going to the Fort Bend senior group, travelling all over the world with her daughters, and vacationing on cruise ships. Most of all she loved the time she spent in fellowship at Colony Baptist Church until ALS prevented her from attending worship.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fausto, her youngest child Fausto Jr. (Junjun), her sister Soledad and brother Danilo. She is survived by her sisters: Herminigilda, Josefina, and Vicenta (Bing). Brother Feliciano. Daughters: Dr. Maria Melita Palasi, Dr. Myrna Packer, Melanie Palasi, and Mila Liza Palasi. Grandsons: Stephen Faust Palasi and Sage William Packer. Sons-in-law Dr. Brent Packer, Russell Janise, Vonzie Barnett, and numerous loving relatives.
