

NORMAN PETER FREWIN, peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2014. He was born in Salamanca, NY, on June 26, 1937, to Norman Neville Frewin and Cecelia Marie Nevorski. His family moved to Hornell, NY when he was a toddler, and that is where he grew up. He moved to Houston when he was 20 years old to work with his dad in the grocery business. Norm served in the US Army, with boot camp in Fort Hood and the remainder of his service in Germany. He married Anne Leslie Cobb, and they had two children before divorcing. Shortly thereafter he lost his daughter, almost 6 years old, to cancer. He then met the love of his life, Janice Sue Wilkerson, and they were married on December 6, 1974. Norman spent his career with Randall’s Food Markets owned by the Onstead, Frewin and Barclay families, retiring after 37 years as Sr. Vice President of Produce Operations and a member of the Board of Directors. He was a very innovative director who was responsible for introducing the exotic fruits and vegetables to the Houston market. Norman was a member of the Hornell, NY organizations of the American Legion, BPO Elks, Loyal Order of Moose, AMVETS and Association, along with the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Santa Fe, TX. Norman was known for his lavish displays of Christmas lights and decorations, the more the merrier was his motto. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved spending time with family and friends.
Norman was preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn Marie Frewin; his mother, Cecelia Marie Frewin; father, Norman Neville Frewin; and stepmother, Mary Boone Frewin. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 40 years, Janice Sue Frewin; his son, Gregory Thomas Frewin; daughter-in-law, Erin Townsend Frewin; grandson, Evan Harrison Frewin of Frisco, TX; sister, Joann Frewin Dowdall (husband Roger) of Shreveport, LA; sister, Rosemary Frewin Gambino (husband A.J.) of Pattison, TX; brother, John Neville Frewin (wife Christine) of East Bernard; sister-in-law, Sherry A. Parker (husband Jerry) of Dublin, TX; brother-in-law, Kenneth W. Wilkerson of Carthage, TX; and brother-in-law, Jimmy D. Wilkerson of Dublin, TX.; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many good friends.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at the Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, (Williams Trace Exit). A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at Sugar Land First United Methodist Church, 431 Eldridge Rd., Sugar Land, with a reception following in the Great Hall. A private burial will be held prior to the service. His long-time buddies will act as pallbearers: Forrest Long, Ab Cullender, Mike Maddox, Joe Smith, Gene Gaas and Jim McNiel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6301 Richmond Ave., Houston, TX, the Hornell High School Alumni Association, P. O. Box 135, Hornell, NY 14843, or to the Caring Forever Fund at the Sugar Land First United Methodist Church.
