

Betty Elizabeth Vickroy-Vanway passed from this life on June 3, 2023 in Spring, TX.
She was born January 2, 1924, in Omaha, Nebraska, as Pearl Elizabeth Kunold. Shortly after her first birthday, her mother died.
Her grandmother who lived Aurora, IL came to raise Betty, went to Omama to get Betty and take her back to Aurora IL to raise. Her Aunt Gertrude and Uncle Earl raised her for 4 years.
At the end of October, 1939, Betty met Robert Vickroy they married January 17, 1942. Robert, Jr. was born by the end of the year. Six years later, Betty had Sandra Louise and four years later had Keith Alan.
Robert, Betty 's husband, went by the name of Bud. He went into the military in May, 1943. Betty followed him from base to base. After the service, Betty and Bud they went back in Aurora, IL where he worked for Burlington Railroad. In January 1952, they moved to Houston where he worked for Southern Pacific Railroad for 30 years.
Betty started her career in banking and worked 28 years. Over the years Betty and Bud belonged to several American Legion Posts until Buds death in 1995. They had 53 years of marriage ,they loved America the military and the flag. Over the years she continued her service to American Legion Auxiliary where she served on local, district and state boards for 40 years. Betty also belonged to several social gatherings, playing Canasta and Bunco. She also loved being a member of the Starlets Red Hat Society.and her beloved Fort Bend friends and neighbors. She was in love. her group of friends became her family, they have continued their love and admiration and for Betty. Betty donated 16 trees personally and thru the Missouri City AARP to local parks and bought paver bricks in memory of her husband, Robert. Betty worked in the gift shop at the Fort Bend Hospital, and also joined in the Eastern Star (Masons), and Oyster Creek Rotary Club.
Two years after Robert’s death, Betty met Ken Vanway. They dated for over 11 years and then married on December 6, 2008. She loved volunteer work at Second Mile Mission Center and was a long-time member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church since 1997, and the Encourager Connect Group. She also still enjoyed attending Cornerstone Baptist Church in Missouri City to visit. Betty is survived by 5 grandsons, including one set of twins.
