

Robert Eugene Armstrong, age 79, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 31, 2022 after battling Parkinson’s and many other health problems. He was born January 6, 1943 in Forrest City, Arkansas to the late Worth and Audrey Armstrong.
In his youth, the family moved to Orange, Texas, where Bob later met and married the love of his life, Jane. He graduated from Lamar University with a degree in engineering and found his professional home with Fluor in 1973. Throughout his career at Fluor, Bob also served as Manager of the Central Project Proposal Group, Global Excellence Leader for Estimating, Global Sourcing and Supply Business Manager, and Project Controls Manager in Houston and Haarlem, The Netherlands. Thirty-six years later, Bob retired from Fluor as Vice President of Global Estimating.
Bob was a consummate family man; he and his wife, Jane, raised 2 daughters, Julie and Shelly. They enjoyed a wonderful life, living and traveling abroad numerous times during their marriage. Bob’s quick smile and welcoming spirit made most people feel at ease in his presence. In his free time, he loved watching a variety of professional sports, in particular golf and football. He adored spending time with his family, especially his three precious grandchildren, Margaret, Robert, and Christopher.
In addition to his highly successful professional career, Bob had a passion for helping people in the community, proving that nice guys really can finish first. He served as United Way chairperson for the Fluor drive for two years, as well as chairperson for the Fort Bend campaign. Soon after, Bob combined his love of golf with his commitment to service by founding Golf for Fort Bend (now known as Golf for Greater Houston) to raise money for local county charities. Additionally, he took great pride in serving as a marshal for the Shell Houston Open for 25 years. Bob served as President Riverbend Country Club and president of American Contract Bridge League Houston Unit 174.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Jane; and his daughter Julie, son-in -law Tom Downs and grandchildren Margaret and Robert; daughter, Shelly, son- in- law Don Iacobell and grandson Christopher.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23 at 11:00 AM at Settegast-Kopf at 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land. Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations made be to Houston Area Parkinson’s Society (HAPS) or to the American Heart Association.
