Robert Joyce Shaffer

ROBERT J. SHAFFER, age 89, of Sugar Land, Texas, born November 17, 1924, in Davis, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014. Bob proudly served his country in the United States Navy, during WWII, from 1942 until 1946. He graduated from Bartlesville Oklahoma High School and Oklahoma State University in 1949, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. Bob married Celeste Shinkle on June 17, 1950. He began his career at City Service Oil Company of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and retired from Exxon in 1986, after thirty-nine years of employment. Following his retirement, Bob and Celeste enjoyed traveling and belonging to may senior groups. He was Travel Chairman for AARP Chapter 2081 for several years. Bob was active at Bethany Christian Church and a member of the Prisca & Aquila Class.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Reuel Ross and Joyce Viola Smith Shaffer; sisters, Rena C. Hanton, and Ida Marie Johnson; and brothers, R.R Shaffer, Jr., G.W. Shaffer, and Samuel S. Shaffer. He is survived by his wife, Celeste Shinkle Shaffer; son, Robert J. Shaffer, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Weatherford, OK; daughter, Susan Shaffer Richardson and her husband Preston of Sugar Land, TX; grandchildren, Jennifer Barbee, and Robin and Sara Richardson; great-granddaughter, Rachel Barbee; nieces, Deborah Limback, Jacque Lynn Hodges, Sheila Sheldon Hill, Suanne Sheldon Alsip, and Elizabeth Sheldon Holzmann; and nephews, George William Shaffer, Dennis E. Cochran, and Kenneth A. Cochran.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at Bethany Christian Church, 3223 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX, 77098.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5111 South Memorial Drive, Tulsa, OK, 74145.
