Beloved husband and father, Thomas Ocasio Martinez passed on March 13, 2026 at the age of 76. Born in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico on May 15, 1949, the son of Thomas Martinez Sr. and Basilia Ocasio, he was the eldest son out of his five siblings, Irma, Milagros, Rosa, David, and Gabby.
Raised in Puerto Rico, he relocated to Northern Virginia, where he met Elia Tejada in Arlington, VA in 1976. They married the following year and raised three children, Karla, Alfredo, and Linda, while living in Northern Virginia for several decades. During his career in the Washington, DC area, he served in the federal government, including with the General Services Administration, and concluded his 30-year tenure with a position at the White House. After retirement, he and Elia settled in Rosenberg, TX.
He treasured cheering on the sidelines of his children’s sporting events, working on cars, being creative and building things with his hands, and could often be found fishing. A gregarious and spirited man, he was known for his sharp wit and the strong community of family and friends he cultivated. He had a deep love for salsa and merengue music from his beloved Puerto Rico and took immense pride in his heritage.
A devoted family man and loyal friend, he was always ready to drop everything to support those he cared about. He was a wonderful husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Elysia, Everett, and Asher. Their lives will carry forward his legacy, and his humor and laughter will forever echo in our hearts.
A celebration of life is planned at Settegast-Kopf Funeral Home, 15015 Southwest Fwy, Sugarland, TX 77478 on Friday, March 20th, 12pm to 3pm.
