On Thursday, October 28, 2021, Tobin Gregg Englet, loving and devoted husband, stepfather, brother, and uncle, passed away at the age of 69. Born in Dallas on March 8, 1952, Tobin spent the majority of his life in the Houston area. Starting with a paper route at the age of six, Tobin began what would be a rewarding and fulfilling career built on a foundation of his Christian faith, his love of Texas, loyalty to family and compassion for others.
Tobin attended Lamar High for three years and at the age of 16 decided to serve as a U.S. Merchant Marine and travel the world for a year. Upon returning, Tobin graduated from Bellaire High School and went on to earn a Finance degree from the University of Houston.
A partner and head estimator at Joshtom Millwork, an interior architectural woodworking company, Tobin was often the first one in the office and the last to leave, always striving for excellence on their many projects. He was the ‘go-to’ person for creativity and solutions. Throughout his career in the millwork business, Tobin played a significant role in many noteworthy projects, including NRG (Reliant) Stadium, the Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center, the U.S. National Archives, and the Gaertner Performing Arts Center at Sam Houston State University.
Well-known and respected for his civic duty and service to his community, Tobin was a true patriot. Whether he served as a campaign chair, treasurer or donor in both the Democrat and Republican parties, Tobin also had the ability to identify natural leaders in the community. He mentored, motivated, and supported many in his lifetime. Most recently, he was the Treasurer of the Fort Bend County Republican Party.
Tobin was also a proud member of the Blue Crew and enjoyed tailgating before the Texans games since the inaugural season in 2002. The Blue Crew was known for some of the best fans in the NFL and the Bull Pen Band always stopped by to play a few songs as the Crew made a toast to the team.
Tobin is survived by the love of his life, Diane Mayeux Englet. While married for only 10 years, they built a lifetime of memories together laughing and making each other happy. Tobin and Diane were a common fixture around the Houston area, attending galas and fundraisers for various nonprofit organizations, often times in coordinating costumes. But he loved nothing more than spending quality-filled weekends together watching college football, sitcoms and 3-D action movies, as well as listening to music with the bass tuned to the loudest setting possible.
He is also survived by two stepsons, Duncan Hasell (Elsie) and Stephen Hasell, a brother, Kevin Englet (Tracy) as well as a devoted niece, Kellie Cook. Tobin is preceded in death by his parents, Bea and Robert (Bob) and brother Gene.
Larger than life, Tobin will always be remembered for leading a Godly life - always putting others first and never expecting anything in return, his loyalty to Diane and his work family, and for being the life of the party.
A celebration of Tobin’s life will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 3300 Austin Parkway, Sugar Land, TX 77479. A reception will follow at the church beginning at 3 p.m. All arrangements are being handled by the Settegast-Kopf Company in Sugar Creek.
If you’d like to make a charitable gift in Tobin’s memory, the family asks that you consider Christ United Methodist Church.
