VONNIE COBB SCOTT, age 77, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, April 8, 2010, after a valiant twenty-one month struggle with brain cancer. She fought the fight as she lived her life, with courage, optimism, steely determination, a sense of humor, and never a complaint.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Belle Evans. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Scott; and the loves of her life, daughters, Shannon Cobb Evans and Kim Cobb Moncure; son-in-laws, Doug Moncure and Charles Goforth; granddaughters, Amanda and Aubrey Moncure; sister, Betty Loveless; mother-in-law, Ruth Scott; brother-in-law, Larry Scott and wife Brenda; and sister-in-law, Mary Hollars.
Vonnie was born July 1, 1932, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. She left home at nineteen to become a stewardess with Eastern Airlines. After her daughters started school, she decided to get back to work and thus began an illustrious career in real estate. In 1969 she opened Vonnie Cobb Realtors, one of the premier real estate companies in Houston and Fort Bend County. She trained and launched the careers of some of the most successful agents in the industry. She is a former director of TAR, HAR, and The Fort Bend Board of Realtors, Director of Sugar Creek Country Club, and numerous other appointments.
Vonnie lived life to the fullest. She loved to travel, play golf, and bridge. Her motto could be summed up as “Life should not be a journey to the grave, with the intention of arriving safely. But rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming, ‘Woo Hoo! What a Ride!’”
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, April 12, 2010, at Sugar Land First United Methodist Church. Vonnie and her family would like to thank University Place for their compassionate love and care. For those who wish, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, SPCA, or the charity of your choice.
