

Born December 22, 1928 to JT and Edith Haggard. He grew up in El Paso, Texas where he met the love of his life and received an engineering degree from University of Texas at El Paso. After graduating he had several engineering positions in Midland, Odessa and finally settled in Houston. In 1973 Bill was injured during a business trip and as a result was paralyzed. Determined to continue to live life to the fullest, he and Joan enjoyed travel, many church activities and family vacations. Together they survived numerous health complications as a result of the paralysis for the next 43 years before he finally succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease.
Bill had a deep and abiding love for God, his church, family and friends. He was an ordained deacon serving at First Baptist Church, Odessa; Tallowood Baptist Church, Houston and Second Baptist Church Houston.
He was preceded in death by his son Roy Wayne Haggard. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Joan, Son and daughter and their spouses- Jud and Susan Haggard, Edie and Barry Barker and Sue Orton. He was a blessing to all who knew him, especially his grandchildren and their spouses- Whitney & Guillermo Lambarri, Graham & Angela Haggard, Ross & Jana Haggard, Cole Haggard, Zac Haggard, Amanda Barker, Garrett Barker and was richly blessed by his great granddaughter Harper Grace Haggard.
A service of praise and thanksgiving will be held at 10:00 on Friday, January 22, 2016 in the chapel of Second Baptist Church (Woodway campus) with a reception immediately following.
