William Ellis Sammons passed away peacefully at his home in Porter, Texas on March 27, 2022. He was a Retired Assistant Chief Arson Investigator, serving the City of Houston for almost 31 years. Born December 19, 1949 in Houston, Texas, William (known as Bill to friends and family) joined the Houston Fire Department at the age of 19 following his father, a retired Houston Police Officer, as well as his brother, Marine and later Houston Firefighter, in service to the City.
He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Stewart, and son, Jonathan Sammons, their spouses James Stewart and Karla Uribe respectively, as well as grandchildren Macey and Hailey Stewart, Emmanuel Sammons, and his close nephew, Alex Berglund. He leaves behind his sister, Cathy Olson, and brother, Glenn Sammons and sister-in-law Evelyn, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brothers Patrick & Michael Sammons, father Ellis Pokey, mother Gloria and dear wife, Marianna Sammons. Bill loved his kids dearly and was generous with his time and stories. He missed Marianna in the years since she passed. During their 19 years of marriage, as well as years together prior; they enjoyed traveling together, live music, playing board games and generally finding the humor in almost any situation.
Bill was an incredible barbeque pit master and even won a few awards for his brisket. He loved an opportunity to take his friends and family out for a fancy dinner just as much as he enjoyed socializing casually on his patio. He was an avid bowler, and taught his kids to bowl from a very early age. He always said yes to a friend in need, whether it was borrowing a tool or offering counsel or advice. He loved living in the country, enjoying the birds and trees of country living, and wanted to spend his final days at home on the several acres of land he cherished.
