He was a native and lifelong resident of Sulphur. Adam was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time with his family and dancing with his friends.
Survivors include seven sons, Randy Wayne Merkel of Valdosta, Georgia, Richard Dell Merkel of Daytona Beach, Florida, Johnny D. Merkel of South Carolina, and Gregory Broussard, Jeffrey K. Broussard, Richard Broussard, and Larry J. Broussard, all of Sulphur; two daughters, Deborah Hutson of Valdosta, Georgia and Tammy Johns of Sulphur; one sister, Rita Marie Hoffpauir of Sulphur; twenty-four grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lou Ethel East.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 10, in St. Theresa Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Aquino will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Wednesday with a rosary service at 7 p.m. and from 9 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
