

He was a native of New Orleans and had been a resident of Sulphur for 57 years. He worked for 36 years for Lucent Technology (formerly Western Electric). Alvin was a devout Catholic and belonged to the Knights of Columbus and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He had so much love for his wonderful family and for his camp on Moss Lake. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Florence Burman Weidner; and their children, Paul Weidner of Sulphur, Christine Madison and husband Patrick of San Diego, Calif., and Glenn Weidner and wife Candy, Cynthia Brown and husband Keith, Alvin P. Weidner Jr. and wife LaJuan and Melanie Savoie and husband John, all of Sulphur; daughter-in-law, Karen Weidner of Sulphur; brother, William D. Weidner Jr. of New Orleans; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a son, Carl Weidner; daughter-in-law, Nancy Weidner (wife of Paul Weidner); his parents, William Weidner Sr. and Bella Arnoult Weidner; sister, Rosemary Iverson; twin brother, Edward Weidner; brother, James Weidner; and a great-granddaughter, Janae Borel.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur. The Rev. Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held in the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Friday with a Scripture service at 6 p.m. followed by a rosary service led by the Knights of Columbus. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons, Paul Weidner, Glenn Weidner, Alvin Weidner Jr., Clint Weidner, Brandon Weidner and Douglas Madison.
