

Annie, a native of Orange, married her husband Kenneth in 1950. As an Air Force family they moved quite often and in 1969 the settled in Sulphur. She retired from Calcasieu Parish School Board after 15 years of service as a cafeteria worker. Annie enjoyed gardening, traveling in their motor home, and loved cooking for her family. Before her illness she was very active member of Calvary Baptist Church and had a passion for helping others.
Survivors include her son, Robert K. Simmons and wife, Susie of Sulphur; daughter, Katrina McCauley and husband Keith of Kinder; sister, Gloria Jacobs of Orange; twelve grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Kenneth K. Simmons; son, Richard K. Simmons; daughter, Karen K. Shortridge; granddaughter, Jessica A. Shortridge, parents, Odelia and Owen McPayne; brothers, Owen Patrick McPayne, Richard Dyson, Willie Dyson; sisters, Peggy Merritt, Fannie Williams, Belle Kennedy, Parwarna Elmore and Margaret Welch.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11 in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home and resume 11 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday. Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 12th in the funeral home. The Rev. W. T. Darnell will officiate. Burial will follow in Big Woods Cemetery.
