Betty was a member of First Baptist Church of Sulphur and the Louisiana Association of Realtors. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and her Masters from Our Lady of Holy Cross College. She was an Educator for 36 years. After retiring from teaching, she obtained her real estate license and her floral license. Betty loved gardening and working with flowers in her yard. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include three children, Nita Sue Gaines, Kenneth Michael Gaines and Paul Christopher Gaines, all of Sulphur; two granddaughters, Megan Elizabeth Gaines and MiKayleigh Jo Gaines; and her best friend, Jackie Dupree.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Mildred Groom; and her brother, James Groom.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 29, in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m.—noon on Saturday in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
