Clifford was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as an interpreter in France. He was employed with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Department, in the Civil Division. Prior to the Sheriff Department he served as a patrol officer with Westlake Police Department and then as a Lieutenant with Sulphur Police Department. Clifford enjoyed camping, fishing, cutting grass, making sausage and cooking, especially Bar-B-Que or crawfish. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his loved ones.
He is survived by his children: Sharon Reed (Mark) of Sulphur, Martha Williams (Paul) of Singer, Cliff Fontenot Jr. (Marla) of Carlyss, Sylvia McFarlain (Chris) of Lake Charles, and Delson (Kelly) Fontenot of Sulphur; stepchildren: Gerard Miller (Cheryl) of Iowa, Tod Miller (Tammy) of Sweet Lake, George Miller (Stacy) of Grand Lake, and Medina Percle of Carlyss; eleven grandchildren; along with twenty-seven great grandchildren and one on the way.
Clifford is preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Carolyn Fontenot; his last wife, Jean Miller Fontenot; his parents, Dorick and Bessie Lee Fontenot; five brothers: John Fontenot, Delson Fontenot, D.L. Fontenot, Daniel Fontenot and Fred Fontenot; along with his sister, Florence DeVall.
A Celebration of Clifford's life will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, Louisiana on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 10am, Brother Mel Estess will officiate. Visitation will be at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 5pm until 8pm. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Friday, from 8am until the time of the service. Burial will be at Newlin Cemetery in Singer, Louisiana.
Pallbearers will be Adam Fontenot, Justin Foster, Cameron Fontenot, Devon Fontenot, Jacob Fontenot, Nick Fontenot, Gannon Miller, Justin Reed, Ivan Reed, Greg Devall and Honorary Pallbearer Todd Miller.
