Cynthia "Cindy" Lee Dowers, 63, of Sulphur, Louisiana passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. She was born on April 17, 1962 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She was employed at Entergy, and worked with Calcasieu Parish Schools as a cafeteria worker and substitute teacher. Cindy loved baking, reading, and taking walks with her dogs, Nitro and Jesse. She took great pride in serving others, especially doing activities with her Sunday School class at Houston River Baptist Church where she was an active member for 20 years. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, and Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Mark Dowers of Sulphur; daughter, Heather Dunn and her husband Kenny of Sulphur; four sisters, Darla Trahan and her husband Patrick of Hayes, Belinda Key and her husband Ross of Moss Bluff, Angela Stevens and her husband Scott of Lake Charles, and Erica Newman of Lake Charles; along with her brother, Christopher Fruge and his partner Rachel of Hickory, North Carolina.
Cindy is preceded in death by her father, Harold Fruge of Sweet Lake; her mother, Lois Drounette of Sulphur; and her niece, Mallory Stevens.
A Celebration of Cindy's life will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, Louisiana on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at 1:00 pm, with Rev. William Whited and Rev. Lonnie Gothrup officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will be at Royer Cemetery in Sulphur, Louisiana.
