Donald was born in Port Arthur, Texas and was raised in Lake Charles. In July of 1953, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a Korean War veteran having served an 18-month tour of duty in Korea. Donald worked for Cities Service Oil Company for 31 years, twenty of those being at the Butyl Rubber plant. After he was laid off in 1982, Occidental Chemical Company hired him in 1985 and he was employed there until his retirement in 1996.
His joy in life was his family, fishing and hunting, as well as enjoying the company of all he met and with whom he visited. His smile and positive attitude will be sorely missed. The granddaughters will especially miss his tension and silence breaking quip "Antlers In the Tree by Who Goosed the Moose." He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur where he served as a Lay Minister of the Eucharist when the church instituted this ministry for lay people. He was a charter member of Maplewood Council 8322 Knights of Columbus of Immaculate Conception Parish and a long time member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degrees, Fr. Veillard Assembly 2087. His brother 4th Degree Knights will serve as his pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Doris Leger Hebert; his son, Duane Hebert and wife, Missie of Moss Bluff; his daughter, Denise MacClure and husband, Gary of Navarre, Florida; his brother, Kermit Hebert and wife, Amy of Ocala, Florida; seven grandchildren, Joshua Hebert and partner, Troy Vizena, Jacob Hebert and wife, Ramona, Stessie Lester and husband, Terry, Carrie Glynn, Allie Hebert, Mary MacClure, and Andie MacClure; three great-grandchildren, Emily Lester, Brian Wilson-Hebert, and Lacy Amanda Hebert; and nephew, Billy Hebert and wife, Karen. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Beatrice Hebert and granddaughter, Lacy Elizabeth Hebert.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Lake Charles under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday with a scripture service at 6 p.m. and from 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christus St. Patrick Hospice, the U.S.O., New Life Counseling, or the American Cancer Society (Relay for Life-Luminary Bags) through the Catholic Daughters of America of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Sulphur. The family would like to thank their extended family, friends, Father Guilbeau, Deacon Bud, and the members of their faith community of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for their out pouring of love and support given during Donald's illness and at this time.
