Eliska Halverson Counts, 70, of Sulphur, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Eliska, born to Leo and Charline Halverson, was a lifelong resident of Westlake. She attended McNeese State University and later went on to work for McNeese until she retired in 2012.
Eliska, better known as "Hunny," loved to read, water ski, and play volleyball. She was a loving mother and grandmother who valued quality time with her friends and family. Hospitality came naturally to her; she would go out of her way to ensure everyone felt welcomed and loved in her home.
Eliska is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Counts; parents and her son, Jerod Paul Powers.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughter, Jamie Sutherland and husband, Shannon of Sulphur; by marriage, her sons: Bobby Counts (Michelle), Randy Counts, and Michael Counts (Vickie); daughter by marriage, Laurie Breud (David); grandchildren: David Christian Breaud, Nicholas Counts, Carly Daspit, Gage Counts, Holly Counts, Heather Counts, Haylie Counts, Kathryn Greene, Caden M. Powers, Rylee M. Powers, and Chaise M. Sutherland; great grandchildren: Dade Breaud, Briley Counts, Harper Counts, Jack Daspit, Noah Daspit, Aubrey Michelle Ellis, Natalie Ellis, Angel Greene and Remi Greene.
On behalf of our family, we would like to send out special thanks to Aunt Carolyn Ann Simmons for her years of tender care; Tammie Evans, friend and home assistant; Pastor Rocky East, officiant and long time family friend; and last but not least, to all of our friends and family, we truly appreciate your friendship, love, support and prayers. Words cannot adequately express our gratitude during this difficult time.
A Graveside Service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Dutch Cove Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral home and Pastor Rocky East. Visitation will be held at Hixson Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, July 11, 2025 from 5-8 pm and will resume on Saturday at the funeral home from 9 am until the time of service.
