

Ethel was a Carlyss native and attended St Theresa Catholic Church. She loved Dominoes and Bingo. Ethel never met a stranger. To family and friends she was known by many first names, Tant, Jim, Ethel Mertz, Dew Dew and Taunt. She lived for her grandkids and great grandkids. She loved planning parties for family and friends. She had a special knack for memorizing birthdays and other events.
Survivors include her sons, Fred Ellender, Jr. and wife Gloria of Sulphur; daughter Kathy Wilson and husband Gary of Vinton; grandchildren, Alicia Istre and husband Jeremy, Trey Ellender, and Lance Wilson and wife Nikki; and great grandchildren, Mary Claire Istre, Garet Istre, Juan Abreu, Austin Abreu, Dylan Abreu, Marrio Abreu, Sophia Abreu, and Cannan Abreu.
She is preceded in death by her husband Fred Ellender, Sr.
Pallbearers will be Trey Ellender, Lance Wilson, Lennie Broussard, Randy Gros, Jeremy Istre, Cody Fenetz, Tom Sims, and Randy Broussard.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, in St. Theresa Catholic Church in Carlyss. The Rev. Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Monday with a rosary at 6 p.m. and Tuesday from 8-10 a.m., all at the funeral home. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.
