

Rick was born June 14th, 1961 in DeRidder, LA, to Lamar and Beverly Schweitzer. Rick is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his step-mother Linda Schweitzer.
Rick graduated from DeRidder High School in 1979 and Northwestern State University with a degree in Industrial Technology. He was an eagle scout, athlete, and National AAU Decathlete. After graduating from Northwestern State University, Rick joined the United State Marine Corps where he served as a Lance Corporal. Once Rick was honorably discharged from the USMC, he earned his nursing degree from McNeese State University. He has worked as a Registered Nurse for several Lake Area hospitals.
Rick was a loving husband, supportive father, and a good friend to everyone who knew him. Rick loved cooking, gardening, sports, working out, working on home improvements, and helping others. Rick’s greatest joy in life was visiting, hosting, and cooking for friends and family.
Rick is survived by his wife Carol Schweitzer of Sulphur; two step-sons Nick Nazar of Houston, TX, and Josh Nazar and his wife Shelli of Houston, TX; two brothers Stephen Michael Schweitzer and his wife Sandra of New Orleans, Jeffery Alan Schweitzer and his wife Tommie of Lake Charles; father-in-law Larry Kelley; brother-in-law Mike Kelley; one step-brother and two step-sisters Lee Joseph “Joey” Petitjean Jr., Angela “Angie” Petitjean Leger, and Rochelle “Shelly” Denise Petitjean; and multiple nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Saturday, July 11th, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, July 10th, 2015 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Saturday, July 11th, 2015 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM the service. Rachel McConnell-Switzer, Associate Pastor, and Ellen Alston, Pastor, will officiate.
