He was a native of Barnsdall, Oklahoma and had been a resident of Sulphur for nearly 80 years. Harry enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and was a member of the LARKS (Lake Area Radio Kontrol Society) as well as woodworking, and he along with his family owned and operated Santa’s Tropical Gardens nursery for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having been a boxer and receiving the Golden Gloves Award. He retired from Cities Services after 33 years of service.
Survivors include his son, Harry McHaffie, II and wife, Teresa of Sulphur; two grandsons, Jason McHaffie and Garrett McHaffie, both of Sulphur; and three great-grandchildren, Colin, Molly, and Meghan. He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Barbara McHaffie; his son, Dewayne McHaffie; his sister, Betty Lou Mayes; and a great-grandson, Rory McHaffie.
His funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 31, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Tim Bergen will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss.
