Helen Butler, better-known as "MawMaw" to all her grandchildren, entered her eternal home on May 19, 2026, at the age of 100 years old. Waiting there to meet her were all the relatives and friends who preceded her, including the love of her life, her husband of 68 years, Lee Butler. Helen was born January 12, 1926, in Pittsburg, Kansas to George E. Dixon and Velva Linebaugh Dixon. She eventually moved to Sulphur, Louisiana, after she married Elmer Lee Butler in 1946. Together they raised four children, Edward, Velva, Deanna, and Brian. Helen's life centered around her home and family, especially raising her children. Of all the milestones in her life, one of the most recent was her 100th birthday celebration on January 12, 2026, celebrated in her home by friends and family members. MawMaw's house was where every important holiday or event was a family celebration, and she remained there all her life while being cared for by her children and caregivers. The family is especially grateful to the Heart of Hospice caregivers, and to Sara, Nan, Mary Louise, and Sandra for the loving care of their mother that allowed her to remain in the home that she loved.
Helen is preceded by her husband, Elmer Lee Butler; her parents, George and Velva Dixon; her stepmother, Helen Dixon; her brother, Perry (Buck) Dixon; her sister, Dorothy Davis; her stepsister, Barbara McHaffie; and her son-in-law, Greg Foreman.
Left to remember and celebrate her life are her four children, Edward Butler (Linda), Velva Truax (Wayne), Deanna Foreman
(Greg, deceased), and Brian Butler (Donna). In addition, and equally important were her grandchildren: Jay Gallagher, Kristen Butler, Stacy Teer, Bethany Teer Roy (Jeremy), Tammy Truax Granger (Scott), Todd Truax (Leslie), Lee Taylor Foreman (Emily), Jayce Foreman, Tyler Butler (Kate), Allie Butler, and Abby Butler. In addition, Helen also loved twenty two and "one on the way" great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
Although there are no awards or certificates given for being a loving daughter, wife, mother, aunt, sister, grandmother, or friend, her family and friends will remember and love her, and she will remain in their hearts forever.
A Celebration of Helen's life will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, Louisiana on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at 1:00 pm, with Hixson Celebrant Jody Tyler.
