Helen Walters Clyde, 86, of Sulphur, LA passed away Friday, February 27, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born to her late parents, Lamar and Hazel Walters on November 24, 1939 in Alexandria, LA.
Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband and partner of 57 years, George E. Clyde, her brother Sonny Walters and her parents.
She is survived by her two children, Cathy Patton (Andy) and Eddie Clyde (Jennifer) all of Sulphur; one sister, Carol Poche (Gerry) of Seattle, WA; seven grandchildren, Brody Patton (Kacie) of New Orleans, Hunter Patton of Sulphur, Madeline Volland (Jon-Austin) of Baton Rouge, Jack Clyde of Lake Charles, Emily Rogers (Matt) of Moss Bluff, Elizabeth Clyde of Sulphur, and Eloise Clyde of Sulphur; two great grandchildren, George H. Clyde and Collins Clyde of Lake Charles.
Helen graduated from Bolton High School in Alexandria, LA in 1957 and Louisiana Tech University in 1960 with a B.S. degree in English, completing her undergraduate studies at the age of 20. Upon graduation, Helen and George moved to Sulphur. She worked as an English and business education teacher at Sulphur High School for 15 years.
She was an active member of Henning Memorial United Methodist Church for 63 years. She was a church youth counselor and Sunday school teacher for many years. She enjoyed church activities throughout her life including hosting her “Old Ladies” group for lunch and socializing at her home every week.
Her greatest joy was spending time with any of her seven grandchildren. She loved nothing more than when they would come by her house for visits.
Special thanks are given to Patsy McFarlain who was a very special caregiver and became a true friend to Helen over the last few years of her life.
A Celebration of her life will be held at Henning Memorial United Methodist Church in Sulphur on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 11:00 am, with Rev. Jo Ann Cooper officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday beginning at 9:00 am until the time of the service. A private inurnment in the church columbarium in the Prayer Garden will be held at a later date.
