James Woodrow Pooser Jr., 86, of Sulphur, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024. Jim was born on April 2, 1938 in Daytona Beach, Florida. The legacy Jim leaves spans three generations. Fishing was a favorite pastime of his and all of the grandkids probably could share a story of catching a fish with him close by. His musical talent and love for music lives on in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren through sounds of his beloved guitar, to trumpet, drums, singing, and violin.
Beyond his own personal legacy, his legacy is woven into America’s quilt from his 20 year Air Force career that included his service during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Air Force, Jim retired from PPG after 20 years. When someone catches a fish, or picks up an instrument for the first time, or signs up in service for a country, Jim will be there.
Jim is preceded in death by his father, James Pooser; mother, Johnnie Pooser McLear; and sisters, Faye Rueb and Delores Ochsner.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy Jane Pooser; sons, Kenneth J. Pooser and wife Paula of Bossier City, Alton D. Pooser and wife Daphne of Sulphur, Mark H. Pooser and wife Leisha of Beaumont, and Anthony D. Pooser and wife Laura of Sulphur; 8 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Jim was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed.
