Jay was born and raised in Sulphur. He graduated from Sulphur High School, Class of 1962. He married in 1965, and was blessed with 4 children. He worked for 30 years in the finance business, relocating at various locations throughout Louisiana during his career. He spent 7 years in retail at Conn's Appliance before permanently retiring to Hackberry. He enjoyed hunting, was an avid fisherman, and a fan of professional, collegiate, and high school sports. In his later years, he enjoyed making his daily rounds of phone calls, sitting on his porch and visiting with family and friends. He bragged that his greatest achievement in life is the success of his four children. He was a proud "paw paw" to his 6 grandchildren. He particularly wanted to leave his Hackberry residence as a camp for his kids and grandkids to enjoy.
Survivors include the mother of his children, Brenda Schultz; daughter, Patti Thibodeaux and husband Troy of Carlyss; sons, Doug Schultz and wife Robin, Kurt Schultz, and Bo Schultz, all of Reeves; grandchildren, Colby Schexnider, Michael and Travis Schultz, Bethany, Kourtni and Kolin Thibodeaux; sisters, Minnie Waite, Betty Peloquin, both of Sulphur, and Lana Shearin of Vinton; brother Durl Schultz of Crossville, Tennessee.

The family wishes to express our gratitude to Julie Galley and the staff of the Hackberry Rural Clinic for the compassion and personal care they provided our dad for the past few years. They went above and beyond the "call of duty". We would also like to thank dad's longtime friend, Barbara Greene, for the care and assistance she provided throughout his multiple illnesses since his retirement.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (local chapter), or the Reeves High School Athletic Department.
