Kathryn "Kay" Phillips, age 79, of Sulphur, LA passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. Kay was born February 15, 1942 in Houston, TX to her late parents, Joseph & Coralea Murdock.
Kay was a native of Houston, TX and graduated Valedictorian from Mt. Carmel Catholic High School and later attended Business School. In 1961 she married the love of her life, David "Dave" Phillips and later relocated their family to Sulphur, LA. Kay was employed by Conoco at the Lake Charles Refinery for many years. Kay was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur where she faithfully served in various roles. She was very devoted to her family and was always involved in her grandkids' lives. Kay enjoyed gardening and interior decorating. She was the perfect example of a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother who will be deeply missed.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Melanie (Dwight) Landry of Sulphur, LA, Brian (Beth) Phillips of Sulphur, LA, Dayna (Mike) Hebert of Montgomery, TX, and Jane (Toby) Darbonne of Sulphur, LA; her grandchildren, Courtney (Sam) Bowers, Logan (Kyla) Landry, Leigh (Sam) Rustom, Brianne Phillips, Joshua Vincent, Tyler Vincent, Tad (Lindsay) Landry, Toby (Brittany Ellis) Landry, Trace Landry, Maddi Hebert, Jerry (Shay) Darbonne, Savannah (Jeff) Vance, Jacob Darbonne, and Ashley Darbonne; her great-grandchildren, Paisley, Riggins, Henley, Brooke, Reagan, Travis, and Luke; her sister, Jo Weingartener of Fredericksburg, TX; her brother, Joe (Anne) Murdock of Nassau Bay, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Kay is preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Dave Phillips; her parents; her grandson, Chet Landry; her brother-in-law, Francis Weingartener.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 4th, 2022 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur with Rev. Timothy Goodly officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. with a Rosary at 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 3rd, 2022 at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home and will resume on Friday morning from 9-10:30 a.m in the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Mimosa Pines South Cemetery in Carlyss.
