Lillie Mae Broussard Meche, 97, of Sulphur, gained her wings on Saturday, November 29, 2025. Lillie was born in Rayne, Louisiana on July 18, 1928 to David and Leonese Broussard. Lillie Mae was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her loved ones.
She was a member of Our Lady of LaSalette Church, the LaSalette Ladies Altar Society, the Legion of Mary Auxiliary and a volunteer for the LaSalette Prayer Blankets. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #179. Lillie worked as a cafeteria worker at Frasch Elementary, as a gardener for Patio Gardens and as a commissioner for the Voting Polls in Calcasieu Parish. She also enjoyed playing Pokeno and traveling with friends.
Lillie Mae was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harry J. Meche; daughter, Elaine Molinski; her parents; and sister, Mercedes Hollier.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Thelma Ann Axtell of Rayne, Hubert "Butch" Meche and wife Lydia of Fields, Rebecca Ross and husband Mel of Fields, and David "Chico" Meche and wife Kathy of Sulphur; son-in-law, John Molinski of South Carolina; 10 grandchildren: JD Molinski (Sarah), Donald Axtell (Karri), Kenneth Axtell (Tracy), Christine Meche-Profito (John), Lisa Spencer (Frankie), April Graciano (Joel), Jamie Leger (Joey), Jessie Abshire (Jarred), Jake Meche and Jenna Seaford (Jacob); 24 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren and 1 on the way; neighbors who were like family, Winston and Kathy Benoit; and several close friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Our Lady of LaSalette Church in Sulphur. Father Ron Foshage will officiate. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. A visitation will be held from 4-8pm on Friday, December 5, 2025 at Hixson Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home with a Rosary at 6pm.
Those honored to serve as Pallbearers are Donnie Axtell, Kenneth Axtell, Jake Meche, Joey Leger, Jarred Abshire, Jacob Seaford, Jarret Abshire, and Seth Gilbert.
The family would like to thank Lillie's caregiver, Connie Lockett and the staff of Brighton Bridge Hospice for all of their kindness and support.
