

Philip lived in Sulphur for 4 years, moving from Moss Bluff. He was a member of the NRA, Ducks Unlimited, The Society of Professional Surveyors, and the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping. He was a 1947 graduate of Sulphur High School. He attended McNeese University and finished his engineering degree at LSU.
Survivors include his daughters, Terry Ruth Melancon and husband Rodney of Opelousas, Phyllis Whitaker Petersen of Sulphur, and Elizabeth Whitaker Raymond and husband Ronald of Sulphur; sister Sue Whitaker Tabarelli and husband Paul of Lake Charles; aunt Margaret Phillips of San Marcos, Texas; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Gladys Whitaker; sister Billie Claire Welch; and nephew Michael Welch.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday , all at the funeral home.
The family wishes to express appreciation for the love and care given by the staff of Holly Hill House and the staff of Amedysis Hospice to our Father.
