

Rebecca Barnett was born December 9, 1925 and died peacefully Tuesday, August 18, 2015 in her home surrounded by her family. Leaving behind those who were blessed by her life is her son, Shelby H. LaCroix, Jr. and wife Janie Stine LaCroix; daughters, Becky Nance and spouse Robert Nance, Geneva “Nan” Laughlin and spouse Danny Laughlin, Janice Vidrine, and Nina LaCroix Whatley and spouse Donald Whatley; 22 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Callie Denson Rayford and Lessie Rayford; her husband of 35 years, Alan V. Barnett; three siblings, Thomas Rayford, Robert Rayford and Geneva Rayford Yount; and the father of her children, Shelby H. LaCroix, Sr.
Her greatest accomplishment on earth was spreading the word of Jesus. Her love for her family was felt by all. Rebecca enjoyed a nursing career that channeled into her love for Christian counseling. Through the span of her career she was a nurse, an artist, a teacher, a Christian radio broadcaster, Chaplain for Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, and a Christian counselor. She was a native of Tioga, lived in Baton Rouge for many years and moved to Sulphur a little over 17 years ago and has been a member of First Baptist Church Sulphur. Though her presence in our daily lives will be strongly missed, her teachings will live on through our family.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 10 am Saturday, August 22nd in Hixson –Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Rayford and Rev. Garlin Mizell will officiate. Musical selections will be performed by Donald Dukes, Minister of Music at First Baptist Church Sulphur. Rebecca’s great granddaughters, Gabrielle Lopez and Leslie Whatley, will also sing. Entombment will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South of Carlyss. Visitation will be 5 - 9 pm Friday and resume Saturday, 8 am until time of service.
