Teressa Ruth Castro

Born July 1, 1958, in Hope, Arkansas, Teressa was a 1976 graduate of Wisner High School who earned an education degree at Northeast Louisiana University in 1979 and masters degree at McNeese State University in 1986.

Teressa met Joe Castro while she was a student at Northeast and after graduation moved to southwest Louisiana where she taught elementary education in the Calcasieu Parish School System.

She and Joe were married in 1981. Son Darin was born in 1984 and younger son Daniel in 1987.

A lifelong lover of books, Teressa followed her retirement in 2009 with work as a children’s book specialist at Books- A- Million and in recent years as a private tutor. Teressa was involved in the Krewe of Cosmos for many years and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Sulphur.

In addition to Joe, Teressa is survived by Darin (Amy) and granddaughter Hannah of Central, LA; Daniel of Las Vegas, NV; sisters Sharon Treen (Dana) St. Augustine, FL; Clara Hill (James) of Farmerville, LA; and nephew Connor Mays of Nacogdoches, TX.

Other survivors include three aunts, an uncle, in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and several special friends. She was predeceased by parents Gary and Marge Arnold.

A Celebration of Teressa's Life will be held at Noon, Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at the Sulphur Lions Club, 3310 Maplewood Drive, Sulphur, LA 70663. The family will receive friends from Noon until 4 p.m.
