

He was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson Bayou before moving to Carlyss in 2008 after his home was destroyed for the second time during recent storms. Billy was a lifelong cattleman, but had also worked as a rough neck, for the State Highway Department, for the Cameron Parish Sheriff Department as a deputy, and then retired as Superintendent of the Cameron Parish Water Works. He loved working cattle and baling hay. Billy was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and was a member of Johnson Bayou Baptist Church.
Survivors include his five children, Walter "Tommy" Griffith and wife, Debby of Carlyss, George Allen Griffith and wife, Brenda of Pasadena, Texas, Janie Lynn Ullom of Fort Worth, Texas, Connie Trahan and husband, Robert of Johnson Bayou, and Cheryl Griffith-Guidry and husband, Michael of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister, Rosalie Alfred of Florien; his friend and companion of six years, Loreta Trahan; eight grandchildren, Christy Lester, Charolette LeMier, Susan Dizon, Allen Griffith, Michelle Cedillo, Norman Brustrom, Travis Lee Trahan, and Jamie Renee Prejean; and fifteen great-grandchildren with one on the way. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Griffith; his parents, John and O'Reallye Griffith; his brother, John Henry Griffith; and a sister, Thelma Jinks.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Jack Gandy will officiate. Burial will be in The Head of the Hollow Cemetery in Johnson Bayou. Pallbearers will be George Griffith, Allen Griffith, Travis Lee Trahan, Robert Trahan, Edmond Trahan, and Michael Guidry. Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. until the time of service Saturday in the funeral home.
