Clarice June (Canfield) Kelley passed away December 1, 2011, at age 85 with her loving family by her side. Born June 27, 1926 in Bucoda, Washington to Clarence and Gladys Canfield, she was the fourth of seven children and a twin to Clarence Canfield. June moved with her family to many places around Thurston County, settling in Tumwater in 1939. She graduated from William Winlock High School (now Olympia High School) in 1944.
June married Thomas Kelley on September 12, 1944 at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana. After several moves around Oregon and Washington, June and Tom made their home in Portland, Oregon, where they lived for nearly 50 years. Four daughters were born to them.
June was a directory assistance operator with Pacific Northwest Bell from 1962 until her retirement in 1983, never missing a day of work.
After retirement, June and Tom travelled extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. This allowed June to explore her newest passion, genealogy. Through this she found new relatives who became very good friends. June also loved her needlework hobbies and had a very good eye for color and patterns. Her newest hobby was glass blowing which she greatly enjoyed with her family. She did her first glass blowing project at age 85.
After Tom’s death, June moved to Bonney Lake, Washington to be closer to her family where she resided until her death.
Left to remember June are her daughters Lynn Pittman, Myrna Keppler (Daryl), Nancy Mackley (Jim), and Kathleen Bramley (Mike); grandchildren Terri, Jennifer, Brian, Kevin, Sarah, Gregory, Douglas, Brandon, and Kristin; six great-grandchildren, Bronwen, Kyrah, Gabriel, Hadwyn, Chenel, and Bryce; sister Marilyn “Diki” Deines; brothers Clarence ”Corney” and William Canfield; and two sisters-in-law Jean Canfield and Miriam Kelly.
June was preceded in death in 2010 by Tom, her husband of 65 years. Also preceding her were her son-in-law Jerry Pittman, grandson Jeremy Keppler, great-grandson Vincent Mackley, sister Nadine Hinz, and brothers Gene and Robert Dean Canfield.
June will be interred with Tom at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon, and a memorial service is planned for January. Please visit DignityMemorial.com for information and to leave comments.
