(JANUARY 1918 – JANUARY 2017)
Rachel Alice Baars, born in Dayton, WA in January 1918, passed away peacefully at her home in Curtis, WA in January 2017 at the young age of 99. Rachel was raised in Puyallup, WA and graduated from Puyallup High School in 1937. She was one of 3 children born to Glen & Julia Magaw. She married Raymond Baars on her birthday in 1942 and was happily married for 51 years until Raymond’s passing in 1993. She had three sons, Tom, Bob and Tim; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. Rachel’s love of life was what drove her to her 99th birthday. She was one of the strongest women most have met, especially her strong spirit, love of family, and always putting others ahead of herself. Her loves, in addition to family, included her animals (cats and dogs), gardening, sewing and working on her photos. Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing at the Powers Funeral Home, Sumner, WA from 0900 to 1030, Saturday, January 28th, followed by a graveside service beginning at 1100 at the Sumner Cemetery. Additionally, a celebration of her life will be held at the Boistfort Grange (995 Boistfort Rd), located near her Curtis home. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be sent to your local SPCA (Humane Society) due to her love of animals, or a charity of your choice.
