Annie Pearl Johnson went to her heavenly home after a long and courageous battle with cancer on September 3, 2021, peacefully at her residence. Annie was born January 30, 1942 in Oakland, Tennessee to parents Cecil and Gracie Johnson. Annie was a natural entrepreneur. Her longest and most successful company was the former owner of M&P Contracting for 30 years, selling the business in 2015. Annie was a pioneer in the dump truck industry around the greater metro Phoenix area building the largest minority-owned dump truck business in Arizona. She started as a single mom in 1985 creating a 45+ dump truck operation. Over her 30 years in business, she was a big part of the growth and improvement projects in Arizona. Some of her notable projects were working with the Salt River Project, ADOT, City of Phoenix and the Valley Light Rail Projects. She also founded A. J. Realty, owner/broker, owning and managing numerous properties in Arizona. She even owned and operated Annie's Antique Attic in Wickenburg for several years in the early 1990's as a hobby. She was an active Elks (BPOE) member for many years.
Annie's true love was her family and friends. She enjoyed competitive horse shoes, singing karaoke, playing cards, bingo, an avid sports fan, enjoyed playing golf, an excellent cook, and collected antiques. She enjoyed hosting parties and family gatherings. With her great sense of humor and personality, she loved to make everyone laugh with a joke or an old story. She delighted in watching her children sing or dance and often arranged an audience to show off her children's performances. Another favorite pastime of hers was watching her grandkids' and great grandkids' sports and/or events.
Annie had a generous heart and donated to several charities that she was passionate about: American Cancer Society, MD Anderson Cancer Center, American Heart Association, American Lung Association, The Red Cross and St. Jude charities. Also, her wonderful church family and friends at Hamblen Chapel Evangelical.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents Cecil Johnson and Gracie Medlin. Granddaughter Melissa Cook and great-granddaughter Hailey Rhodes; siblings William Johnson, Mac Johnson, Wayne Johnson, Ray Medlin, Dewey Phillips, Shirley Barnett, Glenda Palmer, James Phillips (sister-in-law) Rosie Phillips.
She is survived by her children Patricia (Rick), Pamela, Paula (Preston), Penny (Randy), Trina (Bob) and Jack; grandchildren Erica (Cory), Emily (John), Brad (Claire), Tanner (Kori), Clinton (Kirstin), Tyler, Carson, Nick and Noah. Great-grandchildren Aubree, Brody, Bryce, Brooke, Avree, Rori, Braiden, Degan, Addison, Cruz, Austin, Kason, Axel and Cooper; her siblings Mary, Elton, Pat, Debbie and many other close family and friends.
Funeral services will be September 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., at Sunland Memorial Park, 15826 N. Del Webb Boulevard, Sun City, Arizona.
There will be a celebration of life immediately following at the Elks Lodge, 14424 N. 32nd Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85032.
