Charles Edward Zimmerman

Charles Edward Zimmerman, better known as “Chuck”, of Phoenix, Arizona, peacefully passed away on Saturday, June 17th, 2023 at the age of 78. Chuck was born on October 16th, 1944 to Chris and Florence Zimmerman in Maryville, Missouri. After graduating from Maryville High School in 1962, he went on to earn his degree in special education from Arizona State University. While working together on the set of a play in Omaha, Nebraska, Chuck met Teresa Wilczynski. Quickly thereafter they were married in 1967. They then moved to Arizona and went on to adopt and raise one child, David Zimmerman, whom they adore immensely. Chuck built a career in public service, working for Arizona Industries for the Blind. Even after Chuck formerly retired, he was never one to sit idly and spent his time volunteering for numerous organizations including the Knights of Columbus, St. Helen’s Catholic Church, St. Vincent De Paul, and many others. During his retirement years, he even worked for Sunland Memorial, which is where he’ll be laid to rest. Chuck was a family man, traveling to the Zimmerman farm for family reunions, where he earned the nickname “Favorite Uncle Chuck.” He loved taking long drives with his Teresa, watching the Arizona Cardinals football team and Phoenix Suns basketball with David. His first grandchild, Kennedy Charlotte Zimmerman, was given her middle name for Charles, and he lit up everytime he saw her.

Chuck was preceded in death by his father and mother, and his siblings: Norbert, Dick, John, Kenneth, Jerry, Phil, Christine, Rita, and Helen. He is survived by his wife, Teresa, son, David, daughter in law, Megan, granddaughter, Kennedy, and his siblings: Steve, Esther Ann, and Danny. Rest in peace, Chuck. You will forever be remembered and loved by so, so many. Donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, an organization Chuck volunteered at and a place close to his heart.

A catholic memorial mass for Charles will be held Friday, July 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Helen Catholic Church, 5510 W Cholla St, Glendale, AZ 85304.

Charles will be laid to rest in Sunland Memorial Cemetery, 15826 N. Del Webb Blvd, Sun City, AZ. 85351.

Following the Cemetery placement there will be celebration of life at his son's David and Megan’s home at 1pm.
