Upon graduating from high school he attended the University of Montana receiving a degree in cartography and continued to work on his masters. He then went to work for Rand McNally in Chicago, Illinois for three years.
He married his wife Catherine in October, 1969 in Rapid City, South Dakota. His yearning to return to Montana soon landed him a position with the state of Montana in Helena as Bureau Chief for their Water and Resources Division. He soon became administrator for the newly formed Publications and Graphics Division. This was a position he held for many years.
In 1987 he decided to leave the politics and snow behind and moved to Prescott, Arizona. He purchased a reprographic, blueprinting and printing business, which he ran until his retirement.
While living in Helena, Don enjoyed woodworking, playing softball for many years on the Olympia team, and a round of golf on occasion.
After retirement another home was purchased in Sun City, Arizona so he could play golf year around. He was thrilled to have gotten a hole-in-one!
Don is survived by his wife Catherine, son E.J. (Jane) and dear granddaughters Taylor and Elizabeth of Burlington, MA, daughter McKenzie (Jared) and precious grandsons Brady, Colby and Blake of Chino Valley, AZ and his faithful dog pal Cooper, and many friends and family.
A memorial service and spreading of ashes will take place in Montana at a later date.
Donations can be made in Don’s name to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St. Phoenix, AZ 85014.
