I met Don's son David when I was 18. David and I were so opposites it didn't mooch well, but what got me was he's jokes. I found out about his children, adored them all and still stuck with David. Later I had a son, so life was good. During our time, David's mon was always with me and David, she always said Don's okay with it...but didn't tell him yet. But when it was told, Don was happy and okay with it. Don was the kindest man who never judge on color, race, or whatever what brought up, he loved all. I will miss his smile and stories....boy those stories were amazing to hear and hear again. Love the man, always and forever

Buck was the kindest man I have ever known.  I always say he loved me the way I  belive God does; completely unconditional.  For instance I damaged the car one time.  I got home & said he wouldn't  like what I just did.  So you wrecked the car?  Yes, I said.  Was anybody hurt?  No.  He never mentioned it again.
We were married for sixteen years of love, laughter & family fun.  
I always wanted grandchildren & received eleven at "I Do".  Also eight grandchildren over those years.
We traveled a lot in Europe & some in the USA. 
Buck encouraged me to take piano lessons, painting & other activities.  He never got upset if I came from shopping with various items.  He was only happy that I was happy.
He took care of me when I was in a lot of pain, and then I had the opportunity to care for him.  I was hugging him while he passed.
There was a lot of real love over those years and I will miss him forever.

Uncle Don was a great guy my heart goes out to David ,Michael and Steven AKA “Peach” we were always treated like close family by both Don and Debbie every time we would visit and MOST of my happiest childhood memories were spent with them deepest sympathies to all Rest In Peace Don !!

I have many fond memories of Don and the Buckingham family; dinnertime at the Buckingham house (First come, first serve or go hungry!), weeding the juniper hillside, neighborhood camping trips, water skiing,  and family roadtrips from Orinda to Lake Chelan and back.   

Don, you will be in my heart everytime I pick up a Louies L'Amore book or walk the Feather River.


Many of my childhood memories are of being at Grandpa Don’s house in Lake Chelan. We would play for endless hours of the day while Grandma Debbie would be baking her famous apple pie or joining us in the lake for a float (without getting her hair wet), and Grandpa Don would sit up on the patio smiling ear to ear watching us all. I imagine his happiness stemmed from the pride one would feel that he could provide such a beautiful place for his family to create timeless memories.
My brother Jadon and I, though we are not blood related, were always treated as such.
As years passed, many of them went by where we did not get to see each other until this past summer for another glorious 4th of July in Lake Chelan. 
Embarrassingly, I was afraid that Grandpa Don may not remember me since the last time I saw him, I was far from becoming a woman. And to my sweet surprise, when we met again, he greeted me with the same warm smile that gave me the nostalgic feeling of love that they would share with my brother and I, as if no time had passed at all. 
He even blew me some smooches, because I was too sopping wet to go in for a hug since I had just come out of the water.
I was able to spend time with him for the following evenings, sitting on the patio and picking his brain about his lifetime of knowledge from topics about what kind of water fills the lake, to what life was like when he had first moved his family to the area.
What I am most grateful for- that I am certain was perfectly orchestrated by the divine, was being able to feel his warmth and love again and being able to reciprocate the same affection and appreciation for him.
I am grateful that I was able to hug him and thank him in a nonverbal way, for being so kind, loving and welcoming to us all those years.
He is forever a legend, and I am honored to have been given an opportunity to be a part of his family & to love him as my own.
Tell grandma Debbie I said hello.

What to say about a man so wonderfull?My Uncle Don was a person I've known for 56 wonderful years.  He was a man I adored immensely and respected.  

Back in the day I was just one of the boys, cleaning, pickling (worst thing ever) and enjoying Chelan with many friends and family.  I do believe I wasn't the best ambassador but did try.

I'm very sorry for the loss of your father.

I loved him very much, as did my Mother.  Thinking of you all during this great loss.

What to say about My Dad, not many of us are blessed with a father like Don (Buck). He lived for his family and always put Us first. My father never missed an opportunity to support Us in every thing We did. Weather it was Baseball, Hockey, Football, Tennis, Golf, Fishing School, Career, Marriage. Dad was there at every milestone We have gone through. That carried on with all his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. My Dad raised 3 boys into 3 men and I will forever be grateful for all that he  taught Me. Dad You will live on forever in our hearts and will be forever missed.

I  went fishing with Buck and many others (the group numbered 17 at its maximum number) in Alaska and Northern California each year for the last 47 years.   I often shared a room with him in Alaska and we did many two man day trips in the Feather River area in California, exploring a new creek or lake or fishing some of our favorite parts of the Feather.  Buck loved to pack a sandwich and a couple beers and head out for the day.  We would often split up for the morning fishing and then meet on the river for lunch.  The first thing he would say to me was always "got any beer left?"  His beer had a way of disappearing quickly. ha   He was a great fishing buddie, but during the years became much more than that.  He has been a great lifetime friend.  He contributed a lot to the strong group comradery that developed on those trips.  He will be missed.


Met Buck in 2016 when I moved to  Sun City and enjoyed a great friendship.  He invited me to join his golf group at Willowbrook golf course.  Enjoyed his stories about his fishing  in Calif and Alaska.  He was an excellent pinochle player and participated with other members of our HOA  and gave his time to educate beginning  members of our card group.  He always had great things to say about his wife Patty, especially her skill in baking.  He couldn`t say enough about that.  Will miss his cheerful personality and just having him around as a friend.  God Bless.

My Father-in-law was a kind and thoughtful man. Our family’s milestones were important to him. He made it to all three of our boys High School and College graduations. He was there as each one married their wives and then as our next generation came into the world Buck got to meet all three of our grandbabies.

I will look fondly on our last time together this past August at Lake Chelan. He would sit with each one of us; share our meals, a beer, chat, listen, and laugh. Kambria, our eldest granddaughter (5) and I even got Buck to play the game of Trouble with us. Kambria is a game lover; and isn’t particularly fond of losing. Anyway, Buck said he didn’t know how to play. We said, “no worries”, with cheeky grins, “we’ll teach you as we go”. Needless to say. The sly fella won not just once, not twice, but all three times we played. Watching Kambria and Buck interact was so much fun, and though she lost every game I could tell it didn’t matter that day. She was just enjoying playing with the adults.

Lake Chelan will be an even more special place in our family’s hearts, as it is there that we look back with fond memories. I’m blessed that the twinkle in Buck’s eye lives on in his son, my husband, Michael.

I will miss you Buck.


We first met Don and Debbie when Don and Pete started work at Chevron’s  Richmond California Refinery where we became instant friends.   Pat and Debbie got involved in Bible Study Fellowship together.   Don and Pete became part of an investment club of mostly Chevron Engineers.  The club was very successful but we had so little money that we didn’t get rich.   Periodically the group would invite the wives on a sailing trip to Angel Island for steaks etc.
At one point we visited the Buckingham’s at the Lake in Washington and Debbie taught Pete to waterski.
After retirement with Don and Debbie living in Arizona  and the Oregon State Beavs playing in the Fiesta Bowl they invited us to stay with them and Don and Pete went to the game.  This may have been the only time Buck cheered for the Beavs.
We often go to a music festival in Chandler Arizona and one year Buck brought his new wife Patricia over for lunch with us so we could meet her.  We very much approved of her.     Pete and Pat Williams, Orinda, CA  petepatwms@aol.com 


My fondest memories of Buck are when he and my dad would come down in May of each year prior to their annual fishing trip in California. They would come and stay in the town of Chester and we would go morel mushroom hunting. Buck was full of stories and always had theories about why the mushroom hunting was good or not so good that year. He was a joy to be around  in the woods. A true forager. 

Buck always had a smile on his face and a glimmer in his eye. He had the biggest heart and a passion for the things he loved. Like my dad I had the fortune of seeing Buck this past May on their way to fish camp. I will dearly miss him. 

I’ve always looked up to my big brother.  He was always showing his love to others. I will greatly miss him. He was always there for me. Until we meet again.

My Uncle Don was one of the kindest men I know. He loved children. One of my favorite memories is when my sons and I would visit my Aunt Debbie and Uncle Don at Lake Chelan.  Uncle Don loved showing my young boys how to fish off the dock. He had so much patience with them.  The choir of Angels has received another beautiful voice in Heaven.

I feel lucky to have spent a week in Northern California with Buck this past May at our 57th annual "FishCamp". It was a time for golfing, fishing ,mushrooming, cooking, and reminiscing, with best friends. Next year at our mountain hideaway we drink a toast to him , and maybe even try to replicate his hearty spaghetti with meat sauce.....and we'll soldier on.                                                                                                     Godspeed Buc k ....You'll always be in our hearts.
