Doris M Schmidt

Our Mom, Doris M. Schmidt, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016 with her family by her side. We take comfort in knowing she is no longer in pain and is reunited with our Dad in heaven, who passed away on November 8, 2015. Mom was a homemaker at heart, baking and cooking was her passion. She was born June 30, 1926 in Colesburg, IA to John and Evelyn Shappell and was one of eight children. Our Mom and Dad (Henry) were married June 26, 1948 in Dubuque, IA and had 67 years together. Mom leaves behind one brother, Dwight Shappell of Bainbridge Island, WA., four children, Lanai Mills of Mesa, AZ, Steve (Cathy) Schmidt of Bee Cave, TX, Nancy (Paul) Laipple of Prescott, AZ, and Curtis (Peggy) Schmidt of Glendale, AZ, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Henry, 7 siblings and son-in-law, Andy Mills. Mom and Grandma, we all love you and will miss you. Our family would like to thank AZ Best Assisted Living for the most loving and exceptional care they gave both our parents. Ille, Anna, George and Rose, you are in our hearts and we are forever grateful for what you did for our parents. Also, many thanks to everyone at Hospice of the Valley. The love, caring and support we received was truly amazing! Services will be held 9:00 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2016 at Sunland Mortuary, 15826 Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ 85351. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Valley. Thank you, the family of Doris Schmidt.
